    Description

OFFERED HERE IS ORIGINAL OIL ON ARTIST BOARD PAINTING BY 38 YEAR DISNEY ANIMATION VETERAN DUNCAN MACLAREN 'MAC' STEWART.
This painting likely completed in the late 30's to 40's is of
    15th century expolorer, Christopher Columbus
    and
measures 8.25 inches x 10.50 inches and is taped to an old mat (measuring 16 x 20) which is variously stained and chipped. The image is signed at lower right '
    D. Maclaren Stewart
' in white paint. The image is also annotated in pencil at lower left '
    HISTORY OF DRINKING V
'.  The painting itself is in excellent condition and fully deserving of a new mat and a worthy frame.
Although not specifically a Disney character, we surmise Stewart did this painting for a commercial project or perhaps for a church or other civic reason.
It's an excellent and whimsical image from a man who participated in literally
EVERY MAJOR DISNEY FILM PROJECT DURING THEIR 'GOLDEN' YEARS
    .

    Provenance:
    This item is from the
Estate of Duncan Maclaren ‘Mac’ Stewart (1909 – 1992) who was a
Walt Disney animator, and layout director for 38 years
. Following art school at CSFA (Now the San Francisco Art Institute) during 1931 – 32,
Stewart began work at Disney in October 1934
    as a story sketch man & ‘in-betweener’.
Stewart went on to play important roles in nearly every key Disney feature from Snow White to Mary Poppins. He also was co-director on ‘
Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color’
in the 60’s. Stewart’s contributions and longevity are second only to the
    ‘Nine Old Men’
. He had a long and important tenure during his nearly 4 decades working in Disney animation production. We are fortunate to have a number of original paintings and other artifacts from this lifetime Disney animator.
